Oct 29 This typewriter’s label and the ashtray made me pause today. Reframing the portable typewriter as the first laptop is hilarious - but the ashtray suddenly felt even more outdated than the typewriter. This is an object that you just don’t see like you did when we were kids. I keep thinking about Mack McFarland laughing hysterically at how making ashtrays as projects in school as a kid. But when we look at these - do people really use these ashtrays like this anymore? Even in the homes where friends smoke, I don’t see accessories like this around… . so down the road, what will people think these were used for?
