Dec 24 The grocery store was packed - but unlike Thanksgiving, the mood today was friendly, relaxed and joyous. Not sure why Thanksgiving stresses folks out so much - but today everyone was clearly enjoying themselves. Lots of laughter, chatting amongst strangers, and joking between customers and employees about what things had run out unexpectedly (what is everyone making with mint this holiday?!) I love ending the year with candlelight service to usher in Christmas Day. Thing 2 dozed for a bit, so we held his candle with him. He woke as everyone began singing “Silent Night” - slow, beautiful, peaceful. Spent the moment contemplating the end of the war, and hoping that the next year brings peace and beauty. Such a lovely way to come out of Winter Solstice, the darkest time of the year, into the promise of a new year, and new opportunities.
